Life After GDPR: A Podcast 🎙 about Digital Marketing in a post-GDPR world launching in March 2022.
Why this podcast?
The Digital Marketing field is a relatively young but high-growth industry with millions working in it worldwide. Starting in the early '90s, for the first ±30 years, we’ve seemingly moved in one single direction: gather more and more data about internet users to feed our tools and algorithms 🤖.
In our enthusiasm 🤑, we forgot about privacy.
Now, a paradigm shift is upon us. Our beloved tools and techniques are under siege from legislature like the European GDPR 🇪🇺 and American CCPA 🇺🇸, public opinion (fuelled by pop culture documentaries📽️), and even from within Big Tech itself (👋 🍏).
But instead of whining about it and acting like we don’t agree, (we all love those ad blockers ⛔️), it’s probably time to look at what we can do. To figure out how we can reach the right audiences and create great digital experiences while respecting our visitors' privacy.
In Life After GDPR, we’ll explore the changes ahead of us. We’ll try to answer questions like:
- What are current court rulings 👩⚖️⚖️ and how do they affect digital marketing right now?
- What are the possible future implications 🔮 of those rulings and how can we adjust our work and technology stack to be ‘future proof’?
- What alternative, privacy-preserving, technology is out there 🔎? How does it compare to our current stack?
- What are examples of successful marketers navigating this paradigm shift? How did they do it 📝?
We’ll try to do this with privacy experts, digital marketing practitioners, and software developers from within the space, all while keeping a positive mindset and seeing the changes ahead as opportunities.

Who are we?
We are Rick Dronkers 🙋🏼♂️ and Peter Sutarik 🙋🏻♂️, the founders of Data to Value 📈, a marketing data consultancy.
We've been working in the digital marketing world for over 10 years and actively help our clients implement analytics, tag management, and marketing technology solutions.
Whenever our clients want to implement a new tool to measure website visitor behavior, we're the guys they call to implement it 👨💻.
Since the introduction of the GDPR in 2018, we've been helping companies implement consent management systems ("🍪 cookie banners") and trying to navigate "the best way" to implement marketing technology.
This podcast originated out of our own interest and desire to serve our clients with the best information. We found that most information about the GDPR out there was geared towards privacy professionals and lawyers and lacked practical advice for digital marketers.
We also felt that a lot of content out there was about "what is not allowed anymore", but lacked to mention "what you can do". A negative framing that alienates most digital marketers and demotivates them to look further into the topic of privacy.
So we're trying to scratch our own itch, and document the process for you to follow along!
